Genesis is a ministry of
St. Paul United Methodist Church.
You Are Welcome Here
If you don't like church, or even hate it, Genesis is probably the place for you. We find it much easier to focus on God when religion is left out of things.
Why Do We Watch Movies?
Art is a window
The idea brings to mind what C.S. Lewis said about art functioning as a “window” onto worlds unseen. As humans, he writes in An Experiment in Criticism, we “seek an enlargement of our being. We want to be more than ourselves. Each of us by nature sees the whole world from one point of view with a perspective and a selectiveness peculiar to himself. ... We want to see with other eyes, to imagine with other imaginations, to feel with other hearts, as well as with our own. ... We demand windows."
The front cover of R. Crumb’s The Book of Genesis Illustrated immediately brings to mind the cover of a comic book from the medium’s golden age. The top half is bright yellow with the title written in a gothic script, while below is a color drawing of God, bearded and dressed in a white flowing robe, forcing a distraught Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. A red scroll in the bottom left-hand corner promises, “The first book of the Bible graphically depicted! Nothing left out!” And just above, like an oval halo above God’s head, a warning: “Adult supervision recommended for minors.”
We are still helping Isiah Tipton collect coats! Please bring your extra, only, old, new, too small, too big, attractive, and even ugly coats (they're still warm) to Genesis!
GenesisWV.com is finally being renovated! We hope this website becomes one of your favorites. At this point in time I have no content for the website. This page is simply a mock up to get a feel for the new design. Please, feel free to send me any feedback (merrill.dustin@gmail.com).
The dynamic I am trying to achieve is that of a magazine. Sort of an online "e-zine" kind of thing. So if you feel led, or if I have asked you to, please write some articles concerning current issues in the world, religion, the local church, or art and culture. I feel that websites that offer valuable content, and update frequently get more attention.
This webpage will also act as a gateway to access our live broadcast, facebook page, and blogs. After I finish this I will need your help to spread the word!
Young Adults Bible Study (update050210)
The young adults at Genesis (the 20-somethings) are now participating in a weekly Bible study. You don't have to be a "Christian" to participate, but if you would like to know more about the Bible and would enjoy discussing issues concerning the Christian faith you are more than welcome to meet with us. We will be gathering at the Leggat's humble abode (812 Euclid St.) for dinner at 6.30 every Wednesday. Vegetarian options will be provided. Bring drinks. To find the place turn off of East Park Ave. onto Euclid and look for all of the familiar cars.
If you need further directions or have questions send me an email (merrill.dustin@gmail.com). We'll be happy to see you there!
